About us
Aesthetic Atlas is an educational project on aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery led by Dr Rocío García-Gutiérrez Gómez, a specialist in Family and Community Medicine, together with a group of fellow doctors. It is a free online encyclopedia, in Spanish and English, that explains what each treatment and aesthetic concern is, how it is treated, its risks, what recovery involves and what the scientific evidence says, with cited medical sources. It was founded in 2026 in Madrid.
We created Aesthetic Atlas because we are concerned about the proliferation of aesthetic treatments that are offered and booked without enough information. More and more people undergo aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery procedures after seeing an advert or a social media video, without knowing their risks, what alternatives exist or who is qualified to perform them. We want to change that.
Our goal
The goal of Aesthetic Atlas is to give the public quality information about aesthetic medicine and surgery, so that everyone can be properly informed and advised before deciding to undergo a treatment.
We explain what each procedure is, what it is for, what recovery involves, what its risks are and what the scientific evidence says, as well as the options available for each aesthetic concern, with and without surgery.
How we write our content
- Scientific literature: every article is based on studies published in peer-reviewed medical and surgical journals, such as clinical trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical practice guidelines and expert consensus documents, as well as official information from regulatory agencies, such as the AEMPS or the FDA, and position statements from scientific societies. We prioritise the highest-quality, most recent evidence, and every figure links to the study it comes from.
- Real evidence: we say when a treatment is well studied and when the evidence is limited, and we flag off-label uses.
- Risks and recovery: every article explains side effects, complications and recovery time, not just results.
- Updates: every article shows the date of its last review.
Important notice
The information on Aesthetic Atlas is for general education and does not replace a consultation with a doctor. Before undergoing any aesthetic treatment, discuss it with a qualified healthcare professional who can assess your case.
